Intel Siapkan Laptop Murah Rp 1,7 Juta
San Francisco - Intel bekerja sama dengan Asustek Computer Inc., pembuat motherboard komputer terbesar di dunia, tengah sibuk mempersiapkan laptop murah seharga US$ 200 atau Rp 1,7 juta (US$ 1 = Rp 8.800 sumber: detik.com). Laptop ini akan ditujukan untuk kalangan pendidikan di negara berkembang.
Diklaim Intel dan Asustek, laptop tersebut merupakan laptop low-end namun dilengkapi fitur layaknya laptop pada umumnya. Apakah akan ada perbedaan kontras dengan laptop OLPC garapan Negroponte? Sampai berita ini diturunkan, baik Intel maupun Asustek belum mau angkat bicara.
Sean Maloney, pimpinan divisi penjualan dan pemasaran Intel, hanya mengatakan bahwa laptop garapannya akan menggunakan prosesor lower-end sebagai otaknya. Maloney menolak memberi detil spesifikasinya lebih lanjut.
Reuters yang dikutip detikINET, Rabu (6/6/2007) melansir, laptop tersebut akan dilengkapi layar berukuran 7 atau 10 inci, hardisk tradisional atau hard drive flash memory dan koneksi Internet nirkabel.
Soal harga, laptop murah ini disinyalir akan dibandrol sekitar US$ 200. Untuk model yang lain kemungkinan akan dibandrol US$ 400 atau US$ 500, kata Maloney.
Laptop tersebut kemungkinan akan digelontorkan akhir tahun, dengan bersenjatakan sistem operasi Linux ataupun Windows XP.
Ide menghadirkan laptop murah ini lahir menyusul pengumuman yang dikeluarkan OLPC Foundation pada bulan lalu yang mengatakan bahwa mereka akan mulai mengapalkan jutaan notebook murah mulai Oktober 2007.
Sebagai perbandingan, laptop OLPC bernuansa hijau-putih dan dilengkapi dengan engkol tangan sebagai pembangkit listriknya. Laptop ini juga ditujukan untuk kalangan pendidikan di negara-negara berkembang. Spesifikasinya antara lain prosesor AMD 500 MHz, sistem operasi Linux, konektivitas nirkabel secara peer-to-peer (P2P), monitor 7-inci, RAM 128 MB, dan tampungan kapasitas data berupa flash card sebesar 500MB. Laptop ini dibandrol US$ 180.

Toshiba Announces the Portégé M700

Today, Toshiba took the wraps off the Portégé M700, the company's first tablet to incorporate a touch screen LED backlit display. Aimed at mobile professionals and students who'd prefer pen or finger input over a traditional keyboard, the M700 features a 12.1-inch (1280 x 800-pixel resolution) display with anti-glare coating, which increases the tablet's viewing range both indoors and outdoors. The notebook is available in two skews: the M700-S7001X and M700-S7002.
The Toshiba Portégé M700-S7001X (starting at $1,699) contains a 2.2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a DVD SuperMulti drive, 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and the integrated Intel X3100 graphics. Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 is the operating system of choice.
The Toshiba Portégé M700-S7002 (starting at $1,799) sports a contains a 2.2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a DVD SuperMulti drive, 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and the integrated Intel X3100 graphics. Windows Vista Business runs under the hood.
Both tablets feature Toshiba's third-generation EasyGuard technology, which includes spill-resistant keyboards, a magnesium-alloy, shock-absorbing design, and a 3D accelerometer. The Toshiba Toshiba Portégé M700 series is available for purchase immediately.

Dell Goes Tablet With the Latitude XT
Today, Dell took the wraps off of the Latitude XT, the only sub-four-pound 12.1-inch LED convertible tablet with capacitive touch technology that enables users to navigate the touchscreen with a finger -- there's no pressure required for the system to recognize input.
Hardware and Software
The 3.5-pound tablet (featuring a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution) offers a capacitive touchscreen for finger or digital pen input, a choice of ultra-low voltage processors (1-GHz Intel Core 2 Solo or 1.2-GHz Core 2 Duo), up to 3GB of RAM, ATI Radeon X1250 UMA graphics, an ExpressCard, and a hard drive capacity ranging from 40GB to 120GB (Dell also offers solid-state drives in 32GB and 64GB capacities). An optional 9-cell battery slice designed to provide all-day endurance (9.5 hours). Dell serves up Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate as the operating systems of choice.
Wireless Connectivity
Wireless capabilities include 802.11n Wi-Fi (featuring a revamped, more intuitive Wi-Fi Catcher), and a choice of integrated 3G mobile broadband from AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. A pull-out antenna is included for enhanced reception. Business users will be happy to learn that the tablet includes a biometric fingerprint reader and TPM.
Availability of the Latitude XT
Dell will begin taking orders for the Latitude XT by the end of the year, with prices starting at $2,499, but users can outfit the the system with a DLV screen specifically designed for outdoors use (400 nits brightness) for $100 more.
